Baker Family History
All the boys in the Baker family and the Parnell family were called John after their dads. All I can remember about this photo is that it’s my great- great grandfather working; I’m not sure what job he did. He might have been a driver. It’s a very old photo.
My dad was also called John, this is a photo taken of him while he was at school with his friends, all showing their ribs. It was Pottery Fields at Hunslet. They were getting ready to play football. They were all born on Pottery Fields in Hunslet and they were all brought up down there.

My mother was from Hunslet. My dad and mother met each other at school and were friends and they grew up together as children.
When my mum left school she went to work in tailoring in Leeds. My dad worked as an Ashphelter. My dad went off to the Army. When he came back they met up again and started seeing each other and they got married. My dad had 6 brothers and 1 sister. There is only one brother alive now. My mum had 2 brothers who have passed on.

Mum wanted to get married in a white dress but they couldn’t afford it so she got married in a blue suit. My dad’s was grey. My mum carried a horse shoe with flowers in the middle and round her neck she had flowers on a lapel and a bow round her neck and my dad had flowers in his lapel jacket. My mum had a lovely hat on made of flowers.
My parents got married on 6th of April 1947 at the Parish church in Leeds. They didn’t go on a honeymoon because they had to save up money for their house so they had to buy furniture and things for it. Their first house was a back to back in Hunslet. After a few months of living there my mum fell on pregnant with John and then they moved to Beeston to a bigger house.
They lived there for a good few years and when she fell on with my brother Geoffrey they decided that they wanted somewhere bigger so they moved up to Seacroft, Foundry Mill Drive. Not long after Geoffrey was born I came along and then not long after me my younger sister came along.

If I remember rightly this is photo of my mum and dad in Hunslet in Pottery Fields. They are both stood outside in the garden with a view of the house in the background. If I remember rightly on this photo they were living with my dad’s parents because their house wasn’t quite ready.
On this photo – it’s my mum’s, mum’s husband which is my great- great granddad with my granddad John Parnell. He’s sat on a step with my two brothers John and Geoffrey. That was in about 1952. Geoffrey would have been about 15 months old and John’s about 2 years old.
